The NC State Fair has become a family tradition for us Batchelors. Each year, we head to the fairgrounds with a few ride tickets, pockets full of cash and iron-clad stomachs ready to sample the best the vendors have to offer. Here are a few pics from this year's trip. Enjoy!

Hi, I'm Cole. Mischief Maker? You better believe it. See those monkeys on my shirt? I'll make them look as calm as a grandma in a retirement home. Ever seen a two year old jump from a sofa onto a table and then onto my unsuspecting brother? I can do that in my sleep. Think your glass of raspberry lemonade in that really expensive glass is far enough away from the edge of the counter that I won't get it? Ever heard of a chair? I'll use it to get your glass, have a popsicle and then make myself a bag of microwave popcorn, all while you are upstairs getting dressed. Yes, I'm that fast and I don't take no for an answer.
If you haven't had a chance to take your little ones to the Museum of Life and Science's Dino Trail, make a trip out there soon. If nothing else, it will provide you with an opportunity to explain how the dinosaurs were wiped out. Because they didn't eat enough vegetables, obviously. Or was it because their rooms were messy? Think of the possibilities! For the record, I think I saw that veggie explanation on Nova once.
A few years ago, Ashton took a ballet class from a member of the Church in married student housing. The recital was held at the stake center and was a very low-key event with people crouching in front to get good video angles and yelling "smile" a lot. Boy, do I miss that now.
This year, Ashton took tap and jazz at Dance Theatre South. Yes... "theatre" spelled all uppity. Instead of the stake center, the recital was held at the Carolina Theatre ... yep, still uppity spelling. It was quite the production: Professional lighting and sound, real costumes (no homemade stuff here) and an intermission. Total time from opening curtain to kid pickup was a hair over three hours. Whew! Ashton's parts lasted about 8 minutes total. So, I got to see lots of other parents' kids showing off their jazz hands, doing chasses and throwing in a flambee for good measure. Step ball change anyone?
Since Ashton will be in third grade next year, my calculations have me attending at least 10 more of these before she graduates. And I'll be at every one with a big ol' smile rooting for my Ashton.
